On Sunday 1 October we celebrated our Patronal Festival and enjoyed a wonderful Choral Evensong. Fr David Warner, Vicar of Mossley sang the office and preached for us. Our regular choir was swelled by a number of friends who regularly join us for special services.
We celebrate our Patronal Festival on the 1st Sunday in October so that more of the church family can join in the celebrations - on St John the Evangelist Day, 27th December, many are away with family over the Christmas Period.
According to legend the emperor Diocletian tried to poison St John with poisoned wine. St John blessed the cup and the poison slid away in the form of a snake! So after the service we enjoyed blessed St John's wine and ate jelly snakes!
